Description
This standard process explains the colour-coding system for duster, mop, and tools. It is mandatory to use the specified coloured equipment for the activities and areas listed below.
Duster, Mop and Tools Color code for use
Cleaning activities involve regular contact with both chemicals and dirty surfaces. To prevent cross-contamination between surfaces, you should use colour-coded cloths/wipes. These should only be used on the surface for which they are specified. A sample list is below.
Once used, the cloth/wipe should be kept in a bag at a designated place and washed at the end of the operative’s shift.
The following clothing and equipment colours are to be used for each designated area or activity:
- In toilet bowls and urinals: red.

- In washroom sink, shower and other areas: Red/Yellow.
- All other surfaces outside the sanitary area (eg, walls, tables and furniture) in the office area: Blue.
- In kitchens and food-related surfaces (eg, food vending machines, microwaves, fridges, buffets): Green.
