Spraying pesticides in the garden is a risky activity. There should be a trained person for this. If you have to do this work then you should pay attention to the following points.

Before Start

  • Before starting work, check that tools and equipment are safe for use.
  • Check that the area is safe, if there is a hazard and you cannot find a solution, inform your supervisor before proceeding.
  • Wear site- or area-specific uniforms and PPE appropriate to the work being performed.
  • Pesticides have to be kept under lock and key.
  • Do not spray insecticides if rain is forecast.
  • Insecticides should only be used as a last resort when all other non-chemical management options have been exhausted.
  • Use only government approved pesticides.
  • The area where the insecticide will be sprayed should have sufficient air and light, do not use insecticides at night.

Pesticide Spraying Process

  • Use PPE, facemask, goggles and gloves during preparation and application of pesticide solution.
  • Make a solution of insecticides according to the approved limit in the spray machine tank.
  • Do not spray from standing down.
  • Spray in the direction in which the wind is blowing.
  • Work in the garden only 48 hours after spraying the insecticide.
  • After using pesticides, immediately dispose of the remaining pesticides in the tank and keep the tank empty.
